How long is the training for?
The RST Skipper’s Ticket course is a whole day course – (Theory 3-4hrs, Practical 2hrs). This course can be done over 2 days or night/day if necessary.
Marine Radio course – minimum 6hrs
Marine Chart Navigation course – minimum 6hrs

Do you run private courses?
Yes, you have the option of either a private one on one course or a group course for 3 or more people, on request. Refer to the Marine Course pages for more details.
Do I need to prepare?
It will be beneficial to obtain a copy of the RST Workbook, however Wayne will provide all training all theory/practical training. This includes 2-3 hr theory session prior to sitting the test, then practice of practical assessment tasks prior to assessment.
What do I need to bring?
Food, drinks, hat and enclosed footwear for practicals. We provide all writing materials and resources for the theory. Don’t forget to bring your keenness to learn!
Do I need to have a current driver’s license?
No. A driver’s license covers you for eyesight and proof of ID. If you do not have one you will need to complete an RST eyesight test. Refer to Marine Courses, RST on the Home Page for a copy. You will also need to bring a birth certificate and medicare card for proof of ID on the day.
What if it rains?
The theory will still continue and light rain will not affect the practical as Wayne has quality wet weather jackets. However, in the event of storms/lightning, the practical will be rescheduled to suit.
Where do these courses run?
Venues throughout the Southwest WA Bunbury to Walpole Oct-March and Northwest Port Hedland-Kununurra April-Sept. Wayne will even run private courses in your own home if you prefer.

Can I do the theory and practical assessments without training?
No, in the interest of boating safety, we do not provide an assessment only option. Be wary of cheap courses offering this, as you may be required to pay again if unsuccessful. Our courses are a one off payment with multiple assessment opportunities, which are rarely required due to our quality training prior to assessment.
Are the theory questions hard?
There are difficult questions in tests if you have no background knowledge. We ensure you are fully prepared before sitting the test.

Do I have to have any previous practical boating experience?
No, we provide all the practical training, prior to assessment, to ensure you meet the required standard.
Can I use my own boat?
No, not for the Skippers Ticket Course, but it can be used for any private course afterwards. The setup and special features on our training vessel/trailer form part of the whole course training package.
How old do I have to be?
RST Skipper’s Ticket minimum age is 14 years. Anyone under 18 years will require a signed letter of consent. Refer to Marine Courses, RST on the Home Page for a copy of this.
MROCP/MROVCP minimum age is 16 years
